The Jigawa State Government is to distribute clean cooking stoves and solar dryers across the state, as part of its efforts to drive climate resilience, reduce deforestation, and promote sustainable economic growth.
The government has set up a committee to design the framework for the distribution.
Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sagir Musa, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Dutse.
He explained that the initiative emerged from a presentation by Dare Carbon Limited to the council, emphasizing the importance of clean cooking stoves in advancing climate action, food security, and economic prosperity in the state.
According to Musa, the administration of Governor Umar Namadi is pursuing an integrated approach to climate-smart development.
He noted that the project would not only reduce indoor air pollution and environmental degradation but also support sustainable rice parboiling practices, thereby strengthening food security and rural nutrition.
The Commissioner further highlighted that the initiative will stimulate economic growth through the empowerment of local enterprises and the creation of green jobs, positioning Jigawa as a hub for climate-smart innovation.
He said the deployment of clean cooking stoves represents a major step toward aligning Jigawa with global best practices on climate action, while enhancing household resilience and safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Environment, while members include the Commissioners for Agriculture, and Power and Energy.
Other members are the Director-General of Economic Empowerment and the Executive Secretary of the Alternative Energy Agency.
