Clark University in United States, will host a series of activities throughout April to commemorate Earth Month, showcasing its academic work and community engagement on pressing environmental and climate issues.
The campuswide celebration also marks the culmination of the launch year of the university’s School of Climate, Environment, and Society, reflecting its growing focus on sustainability and interdisciplinary climate solutions.
According to the institution, departments, offices, and student groups will organise a range of programmes designed to highlight research, encourage environmental awareness, and promote community participation in climate action.
The activities will include hands-on opportunities for students and community members to connect with nature through projects at the Hadwen Arboretum and the Clark Community Garden.
Participants will also engage in creative sustainability initiatives, such as decorating everyday items to promote environmentally conscious practices and reduce waste.
The event lineup will further provide academic engagement through sessions where scholars and students share insights from climate research conducted in different parts of the world.
A key highlight of the month will be the annual Green on the Green celebration, which brings together members of the university community to mark Earth Day and reflect on environmental responsibility.
In addition, the university will host the inaugural School of Climate, Environment, and Society Forum, a major discussion platform focusing on global climate challenges and solutions.
The forum will be moderated by New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and will feature sustainability experts, including Mindy Lubber, president and chief executive of Ceres, and Lou Leonard, the D.J.A. Spencer Dean of the school.
Discussions at the forum will examine current progress on climate action, explore interdisciplinary approaches to addressing environmental challenges, and highlight the role of universities in driving sustainable change.
Speakers are also expected to address the importance of community-centred climate action and strategies for preparing future leaders to navigate complex global environmental issues.
The Earth Month programme reflects Clark University’s broader commitment to advancing research, education, and practical solutions aimed at tackling climate change and environmental degradation.
By combining academic dialogue, community engagement, and experiential learning, the initiative seeks to deepen understanding of sustainability issues while empowering participants to contribute to climate solutions.
The university emphasised that the events are designed not only to raise awareness but also to inspire long-term action among students, faculty, and the wider community.
Through the activities, Clark aims to strengthen its role as a hub for environmental scholarship and a driver of meaningful climate action at both local and global levels.
