The Red Cross Society of China has donated 1,000 family relief kits to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to support communities affected by recent flooding across Nigeria.

The handover ceremony took place last Friday at the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s national headquarters in Abuja, marking a key moment in China-Nigeria humanitarian collaboration.

Speaking at the event, Zhou Hongyou, Minister at the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, said the donation reflects China’s solidarity with Nigeria during a time of widespread loss and displacement due to severe flooding.

He described the support as part of China’s broader commitment to humanitarian cooperation and people-focused development.

Secretary-General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Dr. Abubakar Kende, welcomed the assistance and confirmed that the relief kits would be distributed to the most-affected areas, including flood-hit communities in Niger State.

Kende also invited Chinese officials to visit impacted communities in Makwa to witness the ongoing humanitarian needs, while reaffirming the Red Cross’s continued support in complementing government disaster response efforts.
