A non- governmental organization, (NGO), the Environmental Advocacy body, Climate Africa Media Initiative Center (CAMIC), has emphasized the need for African governments to adopt alternative sources of power to solve their energy problems.
In a statement signed by the body’s Chief Growth Officer, Pius Alabi, in Abuja on Thursday, it said: “As the world shifts towards a more sustainable future, Climate Africa Media Initiative Center (CAMIC) emphasizes the importance of exploring alternative renewable energy sources beyond solar power.”
The body emphasised that while solar energy has been a leading solution, it encourages the adoption of other innovative methods to address Africa’s unique energy challenges.
Some of the alternatives sources of energy suggested by the advocacy body included; wind, hydrokinetic, geothermal, biomas, hydrogen fuel cells, tidal energy, biofuel energies and land fill gas fufuels.
“Harnessing wind upower can significantly contribute to Africa’s energy mix, particularly in coastal and mountainous regions.
“Leveraging heat from the Earth’s core can provide reliable, constant power, especially suitable for regions with significant volcanic activity,” the statement read in part.
It added that by exploring these alternatives, African countries can reduce dependence on fossil fuels, mitigate climate change, and empower local communities.
Mr. Alabi reiterated Climate Africa Media Initiative Centre’s dedication to advancing environmental sustainability and combating climate change in Nigeria and Africa in general.
