Buhari reappoints Idris Musa as NOSDRA DG
President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Mr Idris O Musa as the Director General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) for a second and final term of four years.
This was made known in a press statement signed on Monday by the Personal Assistant (Media ICT) to the Minister of Environment Olusegun Shogbola.
The statement said according to the Minister of Environment, Mohammed H. Abdullahi, the reappointment will take effect from 1st of April, 2023.
In the statement, Musa was first appointed on 1st April, 2019, for an initial period of four years and that his appointment for a second term was based on the significant achievements recorded by the agency in the last four years under his leadership.
“Prominent among these were the digitalization of the agency’s records, review of the various forms for the oil spill management process, review of the environmental sensitivity index map for use in the oil producing areas as a means to protect the vulnerable and sensitive fragile ecosystem of the Niger Delta Region.
“Also he championed so many awareness campaigns on the dangers associated with the vandalism of oil industry facilities.
“He also revolutionized online and real time processing of environmental compliance documents and management as well as the National Gas Flare Tracker in addition to Oil Spill Monitor as part of efforts to showcase transparency in environmental management in the Oil and Gas Industry.
“The agency has commenced the preparation for the tracking of methane in the oil producing areas in Nigeria,” the statement said.
