President Muhammadu Buhari departed for Doha, Qatar’s capital city, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, where he would attend the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
The President’s spokesperson, Malam Garba Shehu, said in a statement on Saturday in Abuja that this development came as a result of an invitation from Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar.
Every ten years, a conference with the title “From Potential to Prosperity” will be held from March 5 to March 9.
It offers a chance to win over the international community’s support for speeding sustainable development in LDCs and helping them move closer to achieving prosperity.
Shehu claims that Buhari will reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to helping the most disadvantaged nations overcome their development issues while in Doha.

According to the presidential adviser, the president would also point out ways that the Nigerian government had helped them over time in various ways.
The Nigerian leader will vehemently reiterate the need for sustainable solutions for countries facing these serious challenges, Shehu said. “As most of these countries struggle to find sustainable solutions to challenges of poverty, adverse effects of climate change, food and energy crisis, as well as high-debt burden, among others,” she said.
World leaders, representatives from business, civic society, and youth organisations will all be present at the summit.
By identifying long-term solutions to the problems of poverty, food insecurity, hunger, and a lack of or inadequate infrastructure, it attempts to exchange developmental ideas and mobilise political will, solidarity, action, and solutions to transform the LDCs.
In addition to other issues that must be addressed in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the summit will also touch on the problems with inadequate healthcare infrastructure and climate change.
Several ministries and senior government figures are part of the president’s delegation, and they plan to take advantage of the trip to sign some agreements and Memorandums of Understanding with the Qatari authorities.
On Monday, the Nigerian president is anticipated to return home.
