Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Abinye Pepple, has stressed the need for partnership between the government and relevant stakeholders in the marine and blue economy sector in order to drive development and ensure long-term sustainability.

This comes as the Chairman seeks to explore ocean resources to develop blue economy in Bonny, given it’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.

In an engagement meeting with critical stakeholders, including fisherfolks in Bonny on Wednesday, the Chairman, represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Marine and Blue Economy, Ibifubara Willie-Pepple, said the current administration wants to explore the opportunities in the blue economy for the benefit of the people of the area.

“Our initiatives are aimed at empowering our local fishermen and to promote inclusive economic participation,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the fisherfolks, Chairman of Bonny Fishermen Association, Promise Bristol, outlined challenges faced by fisherfolks in the area and as well recommendations to achieve the initiative of the local government chairman in his quest to develop the marine and blue economy sector of the area.
