Benue to train farmers on new farming methods, technologies

Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has vowed to educate Benue farmers on how to adopt new farming methods and technologies.
He made this pledge at the National Agricultural Mechanization and Innovation Summit in Makurdi recently, where he addressed the participants.
The summit was organized by the Coalition Network of Stakeholders in Agricultural Mechanization (CONESAM) in partnership with the Benue State Government.
Governor Alia said that the government has a duty to ensure that Benue State remains the Food Basket of the Nation. He suggested that farm mechanization could be improved by providing loans to farmers for buying farm machines and reviewing land ownership to enable farmers to acquire land.
However, he also acknowledged some of the challenges that hinder agribusiness development in Benue State, such as inadequate infrastructure, insecurity, and lack of access to finance.
He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the summit to enhance their agricultural productivity.
The Governor was presented with some farm products and machines, and the CONESAM Executive Committee in Benue State was also inaugurated.
