Benue Gets Organized Cattle Ranch Soon

The Federal Government is poised to enhance livestock production in Benue State by clearing 500 hectares for cattle ranching and dairy projects.
This was announced last weekend by Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, when he visited the Benue Livestock Investigation and Breeding Centre in Gwer East LGA.
The centre covers 2,400 hectares and has the capacity for extensive ranching, though it currently hosts only 37 animals.
Maiha emphasized the need for urgent repairs on existing facilities to foster effective livestock management.
To advance the project, the minister said a committee would be established to assess and recommend essential improvements, including the building of pens and isolation areas.
The minister said the designated land would soon be cleared to prepare pastures before the rainy season, laying a solid groundwork for the proposed enterprises.
Dr. Aondoakaa Asambe, Director-General of the Benue Bureau for Livestock Development, noted that these plans align with the state government’s goal of developing a strong livestock sector.
He stated that the establishment of ranches would help resolve security issues and assist local farmers in returning to their lands.
During his visit, the minister also toured the Benue Swine and Crop Improvement Project and the International Cattle Market.
