Bauchi seeks Iran’s partnership to boost agriculture, industrial development

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has identified Iran as a strategic partner to advance agriculture, mineral processing, and industrialization in northern Nigeria.
Speaking at the 47th Iranian National Day celebration in Abuja on Monday, Mohammed said the state is exploring collaborative projects in agriculture and livestock production, leveraging Iran’s experience in modern farming, irrigation, and ranching technologies to improve productivity and create jobs.
“The future of our economy depends on value addition, technology adoption, and strengthening partnerships,” the governor said. “Bauchi is ready to work with investors who bring expertise and innovation, particularly in agriculture, livestock, and mineral processing.”
The governor also highlighted plans to establish a lead and zinc processing facility in the state through Iranian investment.
He said such projects would focus on building complete value chains rather than simply exporting raw materials, aligning with Nigeria’s broader industrialization goals.
Iran’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mahdavi Raja, reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to supporting Nigeria through technology transfer, investment, and knowledge sharing, noting that cooperation in agriculture, science, and non-oil industries could benefit both nations.
Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, Permanent Secretary in Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said partnerships like these reflect growing South–South economic diplomacy, where African countries and Iran collaborate on mutually beneficial ventures, particularly in agriculture, energy, and manufacturing.
Analysts say Bauchi’s engagement with Iran signals a broader shift in Nigerian states seeking specialized foreign investment to modernize agriculture, enhance food security, and create employment.
Experts highlight that technology-driven farming and mineral processing could serve as models for other states looking to diversify local economies.
Mohammed assured investors of a friendly business environment, emphasizing the state’s commitment to providing support for sustainable projects that generate jobs, improve food production, and develop industrial capacity.
