Bauchi losses N179m worth of properties to fire outbreaks within six months

Not less than N179 million worth of properties have been destroyed within six months by fire in Bauchi state.

Mr Abubakar Bala, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Bauchi State Fire Service, stated this in statistics made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Bauchi, adding that most of the fire incidents in the state were caused to careless use of cooking gas and inferior electrical appliances.

He said the Service saved property worth N75 million and N76.5 million others lost in 40 fire incidents in January.

According to him, “the Service recorded 52 distress calls in February, saved four lives and property worth N62 million while property worth N22 million were destroyed by fire.

“Three lives were lost and property worth N105 million destroyed while 28 lives saved in 49 fire incidents in March.

“We received 12 distress calls in April, saved property worth N8.9 million, however, two lives and property worth N4.6 were lost.

“In May; we got 11 fire incidents, we saved N15 million worth of property while N5.9 million property lost.

“The service also saved property worth N15 million while N5.9 million property destroyed in 11 fire incidents in June,” he said.

Vanguard news gathered that the spokesman, therefore, advised residents to “avoid the use of expired gas cylinders, ensure it is not leaking and desist from indiscriminate bush burning.
