Bauchi Govt sets up committee to tackle environmental pollution

The Bauchi State Government has established a committee to look into and suggest solutions for environmental issues affecting the Birshin Fulani population in the Bauchi Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Natural Resources, Mr Bello Maiwada, said this after a meeting with the community stakeholders and management of Triacta Construction Company on Wednesday, in Bauchi, the state capital.

He stated that pollution, which contaminates air and water with toxins, leads to health consequences and no one has immunity to combat its negative impact but that the state government is committed to addressing environmental pollution in communities, aiming to ensure a safe environment for residents.

He stated that the committee, comprises of the Birshi Community residents, government officials, environmentalists, and Triacta Construction Company management.

Alhaji Lawal Ahmed, village head of Birshin Fulani, stated that the firm has made efforts to address health issues related to dust particles in the community, including constructions and plans for a health facility.

Triacta Construction Company Manager Habib Geager stressed the company’s corporate social responsibility to host communities and called for cooperation between stakeholders and the government to address environmental contamination.

Mr Bello Maiwada, further condoles the death of four women at a mining site in Gudun Sayawa and warns against illegal mining, urging miners to seek clearance from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
