BAM wins £24m Wigan net zero carbon school
The £24m contract will see BAM create a three-storey teaching block at the site in Tyldesley, which will be net zero carbon in operation.
Fred Longworth High School is the first of a batch of two being dadvanced by BAM under the Department for Education’s high value framework. The other, Byrchall High School is expected to progress over the next six months.
Enabling works are well underway and include diverting a main sewer running across the site. The school will in part be constructed over Hindsford Brook culvert.
BAM is utilising its in-house expertise, taking on architecture, M&E, sustainability and fixtures and fittings responsibility the job.
A second phase of the Fred Longworth High School project will involve the demolition of the majority of the existing school and construction of new sports pitches. This part of the project is due to be ready for spring 2024.
