ASR Africa, the philanthropic initiative of prominent African industrialist and philanthropist Abdul Samad Rabiu, has officially commenced construction on a modern 500 capacity lecture theatre at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on the university’s campus, was attended by key figures including Dr. Udoh Ubon, MD/CEO of ASR Africa, and Prof. Sa’adatu H. Liman, the Vice Chancellor of the University, alongside other senior members of the university management.
In her remarks, Prof. Liman expressed heartfelt gratitude for ASR Africa’s support through its Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGs), which provided the necessary funding for the project.
She highlighted the critical need for additional lecture space as the university continues to expand its academic programs, particularly in response to rising student enrollment.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the new lecture hall comes at a pivotal moment for the university and commended ASR Africa for its timely intervention.
“The lecture theatre is a pressing need for our institution, and the grant couldn’t have come at a better time,” she said, adding that the project would significantly enhance the university’s ability to accommodate its growing academic activities.
Prof. Liman also acknowledged the broader impact of ASR Africa’s TEGs, describing them as an important private sector initiative that parallels the role of TETFUND in supporting higher education in Nigeria.
She praised the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative for its unwavering commitment to advancing education across the country and emphasized that such initiatives are essential for empowering future generations.
Dr. Ubon, in his address, reaffirmed ASR Africa’s commitment to supporting the university throughout the construction process and ensuring the project’s completion on schedule.
He expressed pride in being part of the development and growth of Nigerian institutions, noting that ASR Africa’s support for education is part of a broader strategy to drive positive change and development within the country.
He added that the foundation would continue to provide much needed resources to higher education institutions in Nigeria and across Africa.
The Tertiary Education Grant Scheme, launched by ASR Africa, is designed to provide significant financial support for the development of infrastructure and educational programs at tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
To date, the initiative has benefited more than 30 universities, with grants ranging from N250 million to N2 billion.
These funds have been used to support various educational projects, including the construction of lecture halls, student hostels, libraries, and laboratories.
ASR Africa, established in 2021 by Abdul Samad Rabiu, is focused on creating sustainable, impact driven solutions to key development challenges across Africa, particularly in the areas of health, education, and social welfare.
Through initiatives such as the Tertiary Education Grant Scheme, ASR Africa continues to make a significant contribution to the development of Nigeria’s educational sector, helping to improve the quality of education and expand access to learning for students across the country.
