Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed Zamfara State’s readiness to partner with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in strengthening education, promoting mechanised agriculture, and building the capacity of civil servants.
The governor made the commitment when he received the ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, and other management officials during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Gusau, according to a statement by the university on Monday.
Lawal, an alumnus of ABU, described the institution as one of the best globally, commending its consistent academic standards and the expertise of its staff. He said supporting one’s alma mater was both a duty and a contribution to national development.
He noted that Zamfara had continued to benefit from the deployment of experts from ABU to serve in his administration and pledged further collaboration in key sectors.
On agriculture, the governor said the state would work closely with the university to advance mechanised farming, while also implementing training and intellectual development programmes for civil servants and senior government officials.
“This informed the engagement of consultants in the appointment of permanent secretaries in the state,” he explained.
The governor thanked the ABU management for the visit and expressed optimism that the partnership would yield meaningful results.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Adamu Ahmed reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting Zamfara’s development through research, innovation, and technical expertise, noting that the partnership would help the state achieve greater progress across multiple sectors.
