The Agro Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) Project in Zamfara State has distributed seedlings, fertilisers and other farm inputs to about 1,000 beneficiaries as part of efforts to strengthen food security and community resilience.
The distribution, which took place in Gusau, targeted 30 communities across ACReSAL restoration and catchment areas. Each community had 28 beneficiaries, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth and women representatives.
State Project Coordinator, Nasiruddeen Bello, said the support was designed to complement ongoing Community-Driven Development (CDD) initiatives under the project.
According to him, the livelihood package included improved seeds, assorted fertilisers, insecticides and other agricultural inputs aimed at boosting farm productivity.
He explained that beneficiaries were drawn from restoration sites such as the Bulka 5.6-kilometre drainage area in Gusau, where environmental rehabilitation efforts are ongoing.
The intervention, he added, is intended to enhance sustainable land use while supporting household incomes.
Before the distribution, ACReSAL officials sensitised community members on the need to protect and sustain the project’s investments and to uphold its slogan, “Greening the environment, saving lives.”
Beneficiaries were also encouraged to support the forthcoming drainage construction project at the Bulka site.
Participants expressed appreciation to the project leadership and the administration of Dauda Lawal for what they described as a timely intervention and continued commitment to community development in the state.
