The Unubi Youth Association in Nnewi South, Anambra State, has distributed over 900 seedlings of economic trees to local farmers in alignment with the State Government’s “Operation Farm to Feed Campaign” aimed at eradicating hunger.
The symbolic handover took place last Friday, with the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, praising the initiative.
The seedlings distributed include bitter kola, guava, soursop, cocoa, breadfruit, and orange, with the goal of boosting agricultural productivity and improving livelihoods in the community.
Ihejiofor emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding the campaign to enhance food security and economic sustainability.
Unubi Youth Leader, Mr. Aguiyi Ezeani, described the effort as a grassroots initiative encouraging widespread participation in agriculture, noting the fertile nature of the land and urging residents to cultivate gardens to combat hunger.
The program targets providing at least three seedlings per household.
Beneficiaries, represented by Chinonso Udemba, expressed gratitude and optimism that the seedlings would yield significant benefits for farmers over the next five years.
