The Yobe State House of Assembly has resolved to take urgent steps to address the recurring flooding in Yusufari town, following a motion presented during its Tuesday sitting.
The motion, raised by Hassan Mohamed, member representing Yusufari Constituency, called for immediate intervention to safeguard lives and property threatened by persistent floods in the area.
During the session presided over by Speaker, Chiroma Buba Mashio, Hassan urged the Assembly to direct the House Committees on Environment and Disaster Management to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the flood situation.
He also appealed to the state executive to mobilize the Yobe Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project to deploy experts and personnel for flood mitigation ahead of the rainy season.
The lawmaker further requested support from international development partners and NGOs involved in disaster risk management to provide technical assistance, capacity building, and funding to improve flood resilience in Yusufari.
The motion received unanimous backing from Assembly members, who stressed the urgency of converting legislative resolutions into tangible actions across flood-prone communities in the state.
