World Environment Day: Kaduna govt pledges to plant 1.2 million trees

As we celebrate the World Environment Day, kaduna state government has pledged to plant 1.2 million trees per year to combat climate change.

This was disclosed by the Environment and Natural Resources Commissioner, Ibrahim Husseini on Friday during the inauguration of a tree-planting campaign in Kaduna.

He explained how important the exercise was, noting that restoring of biodiversity is essential to sustainable human environment.

The Commissioner, thereby, called on residents to imbibe the habit of tree plantation and as well avoid cutting down trees illegally.

Meanwhile, NAN also reported that the Director General of the Kaduna Environmental Authority (KEPA), Lawal Jibrin, pledged that the agency will ensure the proper maintenance of trees planted as part of its mandate.

He instructed people to forgo indiscriminate waste disposal and always clean their sewers to avoid flooding.

Jibrin further commended the administration led by Governor Nasiru El Rufai to have taken steps to address the state’s flooding problem by ensuring that roads were built with a standard drainage system.
