Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has ordered the demolition of an estate illegally constructed on a designated green area in Guzape, Abuja.

The directive came on Monday during Wike’s routine inspection of ongoing projects across the FCT. He explained that the plot was originally allocated for park and recreational purposes but was converted into a residential estate without government approval.

The allocation will be revoked, and the FCT Administration will strictly enforce planning regulations in line with the Abuja Master Plan.

“People think that government will come and go and they will continue what they are doing. We will not allow that here. It does not matter who is involved; we will do the right thing,” Wike said.

He also warned against developers exploiting bureaucratic loopholes or conspiring with insiders to obtain approvals for illegal projects. “While some civil servants may be involved, it will not stop us from doing what is right,” he added.

During the inspection, Wike assessed major road projects across the FCT, including the road linking Renewed Hope City in Karsana to Kubwa, the Arterial Road N16 from Ring Road II to Ring Road III connecting Jahi and Gwarimpa, Airport Road to Kuje Highway, and the Kuje Road to Gwagwalada.

He described the pace and quality of the construction as “impressive” and expressed confidence that the projects would be completed on schedule, with some expected to be inaugurated by the end of May to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.

“You cannot have a good transport system without connectivity and a strong road network. When there is good road infrastructure, transport becomes easy and efficient,” Wike said, emphasising that road construction remains central to the Administration’s broader transportation strategy for the FCT.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to enforcing planning regulations while delivering infrastructure that enhances mobility and opens up communities across the territory.
