Wales will host all their international matches at the Principality Stadium with the roof closed for the next two years. This follows a protocol change with the Six Nations, which previously required mutual agreement between both teams to decide whether the roof would be open or closed.
The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) stated that closing the retractable roof will provide consistent conditions for players and enhance the fan experience. “A packed-out Principality Stadium with the roof shut creates an incredible atmosphere,” said stadium manager Mark Williams. “The noise is intimidating and fantastic for both fans and players.”
Additionally, the WRU confirmed that both home fixtures for Wales in the 2025 Six Nations will be played in front of sell-out crowds of 74,000. The matches, against Ireland on February 22 and England on March 15, have generated significant excitement, reflected in the high demand for tickets.
WRU chief executive Abi Tierney highlighted the achievement of selling out the home fixtures, noting the growing enthusiasm for the Six Nations at one of the world’s most iconic sporting venues.
Wales will begin their 2025 Six Nations campaign with an away match against France on January 31, followed by an encounter with Italy in Rome on February 8. After finishing at the bottom of the table in 2024, Wales will also play Scotland before returning home to face England.
