A non-governmental organisation, Vectar Energy, has renewed calls for stronger climate financing and clean energy initiatives in Nigeria to accelerate sustainable development.
Speaking at the maiden EcoWise multi-stakeholder forum held in Abuja on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the founder of Vectar Energy, Deborah Fadeyi, emphasised the need to transform solar data into financial capital by leveraging carbon credits to boost renewable energy projects.
Fadeyi noted that over 8.6 million Nigerians still lack access to electricity despite the country’s abundant energy potential.
She argued that depending on international aid to build climate resilience is ineffective, proposing instead that Nigeria should trade carbon credits derived from renewable energy projects to finance more solar initiatives under the Clean Development Mechanism.
According to her, carbon credits can be sold to global companies such as Amazon and Microsoft to support their net-zero targets, helping Nigeria generate additional revenue while advancing its clean energy goals.
Vice President of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, Damilola Asaleye, commended the launch of the EcoWise platform, describing it as an innovative homegrown initiative that empowers Africans to access climate finance through credible environmental data.
She urged private sector players to take greater responsibility in driving climate action rather than waiting for government intervention.
The Ambassador of Israel to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, represented by Thelma Agada, praised the collaboration between Nigeria and Israel through the Innovate Hub, highlighting Nigeria’s vast solar potential and youthful population as key assets for leading Africa’s clean energy transformation.
He reaffirmed Israel’s readiness to partner with Nigeria in renewable energy through technology transfer, capacity building, and infrastructure development.
The event also featured the unveiling of the EcoWise Technical Paper and virtual presentations on Nigeria’s solar ambitions, financing clean energy, and empowering communities for climate-resilient energy access.
Through EcoWise, Vectar Energy aims to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation, connecting investors, the private sector, and development partners to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon future.
