Usman resumes Environment Ministry as Perm Sec, advocates teamwork

Salihu Aminu Usman has officially assumed duty as the new Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, pledging to enhance collaboration within the ministry and across Nigeria’s environmental sector.

He made the declaration during a brief handover ceremony, urging staff, agencies, and stakeholders to work together to advance environmental policies and programs that support sustainable national development.

Usman emphasized that the ministry’s mandate cannot be effectively executed without collective commitment and teamwork, highlighting that cooperation among all actors in the sector is critical to achieving meaningful results.

The new Permanent Secretary assured ministry personnel that he would build on the achievements and institutional structures established by his predecessor while focusing on staff development, professionalism, and improved welfare.

He stressed that strengthening the capacity, motivation, and skills of ministry workers would remain central to achieving the government’s environmental protection and sustainability goals.

Outgoing Permanent Secretary Mahmud Adam Kambari described the Federal Ministry of Environment as an institution blessed with experienced and dedicated personnel, expressing gratitude for the support and cooperation he received during his tenure.

Kambari encouraged staff to extend the same commitment to Usman and expressed confidence in his leadership, describing him as a professional with strong credentials and an amiable personality capable of sustaining progress within the ministry.

He also commended Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas Lawal for his inspiring leadership and mentorship, which contributed to the ministry’s successes under his tenure.

On behalf of the ministry’s management and staff, Director of Special Duties Mrs. Adenopo thanked Kambari for his leadership and contributions, noting that his tenure strengthened the ministry’s institutional capacity and profile.

Adenopo welcomed Usman to the ministry, assuring him of the unwavering support and cooperation of all personnel, and expressed confidence that his leadership would consolidate existing gains and guide the ministry toward greater achievements.

Usman’s appointment marks a significant step in the ministry’s ongoing efforts to address Nigeria’s environmental challenges, reinforce policy implementation, and promote sustainable development across the nation.
