US Media group organises Gateway Africa Conference for climate resilience

The inaugural Gateway Africa Conference, organized by the prominent American business and media group Bloomberg, will commence on June 13, 2023, in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

The conference aims to address Africa’s climate resilience by focusing on financial mechanisms. Marrakech, a popular tourist destination in Morocco, has been chosen as the venue for this significant event.

Scheduled for two days, from June 13 to 14, the conference will primarily concentrate on the pressing global economic challenges and the urgent need for climate action in Africa.

The continent faces the brunt of extreme weather events without adequate preparedness.

The gathering will witness the participation of influential figures from the realms of business, politics, and international organizations, who will engage in discussions centered around five key pillars: sustainable finance, responsible trade, territorial security, and climate resilience.

Michael Bloomberg, the founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions, emphasizes the importance of this event in bringing together diverse stakeholders to address crucial issues such as climate change that impact people both in Africa and worldwide.

Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, a founding member of the Gateway Africa Conference Advisory Board, lauds the significance of Bloomberg’s involvement and recognizes their reputation as a leading force in business and media.

He expresses his enthusiasm for the conference being held in Morocco, highlighting the opportunity to discuss critical topics, including climate change, that affect people across the globe.

Additionally, the conference will showcase the progress made by Morocco in terms of ecological transition.

In 2023, Morocco ranks 7th in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), surpassing countries like Algeria, South Africa, and Egypt.

This achievement is a result of Morocco’s focus on energy efficiency, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions responsible for global warming.
