The University of Lagos (Unilag) is set to host a landmark seminar on sustainable climate action in Nigeria, emphasizing the critical role of waste decarbonization and co-processing technology.
The event, under the Green Earth Seminar Series, is scheduled to take place on April 22, 2025, at Rahamon Bello Hall, University of Lagos, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm WAT.
The seminar marks the maiden edition of a joint initiative by the TETFund Centre of Excellence in Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Management (TCEBCEM), the Centre for Environment Human Resources Development (CENHURD), and UNILAG Green Hub, with support from Lafarge Africa Plc.
Chairman of the planning committee, Dr. AbdulGaniyu Adelopo, disclosed that the theme of the seminar is “Sustainable Climate Action in Nigeria through Waste Decarbonization and Co-Processing Technology”.
This according to him reflects the growing importance of integrating sustainable waste management with industrial processes to reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental outcomes.
He noted that the seminar will attract top environmental experts, academics, industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners.
The keynote speaker is Prof. Babajide Alo, an emeritus Professor of Chemistry, known for his ground breaking contributions to environmental science.
Other speakers include Mrs. Amaka Onyemelukwe, Senior Director at The Coca-Cola Company; Mr. Daniel Adedokun, Head of Geocycle, Lafarge Africa Plc; and Mr. Wasiu Abolaji Balogun, MD/CEO of Polymart Group.
The speakers are expected to offer unique insights into the current state and future possibilities of co-processing technology and its impact on sustainable development in Nigeria.
The event will be hosted by UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola supported by Prof. Bola Oboh, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Research); and Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, a former vice-chancellor and Director of the Centre.
The Group MD/CEO of Lafarge Africa Plc, Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi is the chairman, while Mr. Michel Deelen, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, will serve as co-chair.
