In a significant development, Ukraine has partnered with Lagos Free Zone company to establish a grain terminal at Nigeria’s Lekki Port, as confirmed by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on
Monday.
The signing of a joint memorandum occurred in London during the Ukraine Recovery Conference, as reported by Voice of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian agricultural industry remains pivotal in safeguarding global food security, especially in light of the world’s growing
population.
Taras Vysotskyi, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, stated, “The collaboration between the Ministry of
Agrarian Policy and Lagos Free Zone Company aims to build the necessary infrastructure for a seamless supply of Ukrainian agricultural products to Nigeria and the entire African continent.”
He further emphasized, “Our primary objective is to ensure food security in regions that are most in need.”
Moreover, Minister Vysotskyi reiterated the significant role of the Ukrainian agricultural sector in ensuring international food security, particularly in the face of global population growth.
The Lekki Deep Sea Port in Nigeria represents the country’s inaugural fully automated port. This project is a joint effort involving the Nigerian government, Lagos State government, Singapore’s Tolarams
Group (owner of Lagos Free Zone), and the China Harbour Engineering Company (CNEC).
