Taking a momentous stride towards promoting sustainability and championing Africa’s green revolution, UBA Foundation, the esteemed corporate social responsibility arm of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has kickstarted a significant tree planting campaign.
Aligned with the visionary Chairman of UBA Plc, the foundation reaffirms its unwavering commitment to environmental preservation, joining hands with global efforts to combat climate change and advance ecological conservation.
Recently, the Foundation unveiled its much-anticipated 2023 Tree Planting Campaign in collaboration with Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency (LASPARK), holding ceremonial events at two prominent locations: the UBA Foundation Garden in Marina Lagos and the International Airport Setback Garden in Ikeja Lagos.
The initiative extends its reach across all UBA locations in the 20 African countries, advocating under the theme: “Shades of Hope: One Tree at a Time.”
The event witnessed UBA’s Group Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba, planting a symbolic tree at the UBA Foundation Garden in Marina Lagos, signifying the commencement of this noteworthy campaign.
Alawuba passionately reiterated UBA’s deep commitment to environmental conservation, recognizing the indispensable role that Africa’s natural ecosystems play in sustaining the vitality of the continent.
In partnership with stakeholders and government agencies, UBA Foundation actively supports initiatives fostering biodiversity and ecosystem health, fostering sustainable practices throughout communities.
Alawuba underscored the urgency of addressing climate change, particularly in the wake of recent heatwaves that have impacted the United States, United Kingdom, and China.
As a responsible corporate entity, UBA acknowledges the imperative of safeguarding the environment for future generations, with tree planting emerging as an instrumental step towards realizing this vital goal.
Earlier this month, UBA’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, the esteemed Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, participated in the prestigious Climate Finance Mobilisation Forum in London, graced by the presence of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and US President Joe Biden.
This crucial forum aimed to galvanize a fresh wave of capital to combat climate change, spotlighting UBA’s unwavering dedication to actively contribute to the global fight against environmental challenges.
