President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate activation of the National Emergency Response Centre following severe flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, which has killed over 111 people and displaced many families.

The directive, issued early Saturday, came after the President received distressing updates on the disaster.

Search -and-rescue operations are ongoing, with more than 100 individuals still unaccounted for.

Local sources report that at least 75 victims have already been buried.

Relief efforts are being coordinated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in partnership with the Niger State Government.

Tinubu confirmed that emergency supplies and temporary shelters are being deployed to affected areas without delay.

In a statement shared on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured a swift and compassionate federal response.

“We will ensure that no Nigerian affected by this disaster is left behind or unheard of,” he stated.

The President also directed security agencies to assist emergency teams in ongoing rescue missions and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to saving lives and restoring dignity.

Offering condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Niger State, Tinubu called for national solidarity, urging Nigerians to keep the affected in their thoughts and prayers.

Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage while emergency personnel race against time to locate missing persons and prevent further casualties.
