The Federal Government has approved N100 billion under the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative (NPSSI) to provide reliable electricity to public institutions across Nigeria.

Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Aliyu, disclosed this during a visit by the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Aliyu said the initiative, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is designed to tackle persistent electricity challenges in government institutions, especially those experiencing poor power supply or rising electricity costs.

He explained that the programme forms part of the Federal Government’s wider effort to expand access to electricity through renewable energy solutions.

According to him, the project is already being implemented in several key establishments, including the Department of State Services, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the National Hospital Abuja, as well as various educational institutions across the country.

Dr. Aliyu added that the REA would carry out an energy audit at the National Judicial Institute to determine the appropriate capacity for a solar mini-grid system at the facility.

The audit will guide the size of the mini-grid and distribution network to be deployed, he said, reassuring the institute’s management that NJI would benefit from the programme as the agency expands renewable energy infrastructure across public sector facilities.

Earlier in his remarks, Justice Adejumo emphasized that stable electricity is essential for the efficient operation of judicial institutions, noting that modern judicial training and research rely heavily on consistent power supply.
