Teach Your Kids Green Habits

Kids are the future of tomorrow and it is essential they know how to take care and sustain the planet we live in.

They are very curious being and always wants to experiment, letting them know these habits will help them as they practice and also pass the knowledge to the future generations.

Green habits are activities or daily practices that promote environmental sustainability, conservation, and protection.

They are behavioral actions humans adopt to contribute and ensure a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.

There are numerous green habits that kids can adopt to promote environmental sustainability but a few.

The 3R of waste management or waste minimization: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Kids should be thought to reduce the amount of waste they generate by reusing items where possible or recycling instead of throwing them away.

Kids should be encouraged to switch off lights, fans, and other electronic devices when not in use for energy conservation.

Encourage your kids to walk, cycle, or carpool instead of using a car for short distances to reduce carbon emissions.

Kids should learn to conserve water by turning off taps while brushing teeth or washing hands and not wasting water when showering.

Tree planting, gardening or composting is an essential practice for kids. They should know the importance of planting different types of trees in the homes especially in their backyard or balcony to support biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gases.

Encourage kids to use cloth bags instead of plastic bags for shopping trips. They should know the importance of Locally grown and organic food items that are more sustainable and have a lower carbon footprint.

Paper usage reduction should be minimized when there are electronic documents wherever possible.

Inculcating these green habits and instilling environmentally conscious behavior from a young age can go a long way towards creating a more sustainable future.
