Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Mashimba Ndaki in Tanzania on Monday said the effect of prolonged drought in the country had killed more than 98,000 livestock from different parts of the country.
Drought in Tanzania has been the major reason for both water and food shortages.
Drought also worsens agricultural development and unsustainable land use.
In Tanzania, drought condition is observed more frequently in the northern and central portion (Arusha, Manyara, Shinyanga, Simiyu, and Dodoma) of the country.
While revealing the species of livestock been destroyed, Ndaki said total number of deaths, 69751 are castles, 11024 are goats,15742 are sheep and 1680 are donkeys, daily news reports.
According to the minister the draught situation in the country resulted to a shortage in most grazing areas that subsequently led to the death.
However, Mr Ndaki said the problem is under control since the ministry has already discussed with the water basin authorities to allow livestock to access water in the basins.
He also mentioned their talks with various conservation authorities asking them to allow livestock to graze within the reserve area.
