Tanzania launches electric-powered train services for economic prosperity, regional integration

The Government of Tanzania under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially launched an electric-powered train services on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line from Dar-es-Salaam, the nation’s capital and Dodoma.

This momentous ceremony was not just another ribbon-cutting event, it was a symbol of Tanzania’s leap into a new era of infrastructural development and economic transformation.

The new SGR railway transport development in Tanzania introduces new opportunities for improved connectivity and economic growth while also challenging existing modes of transport to innovate and adapt.

The launch of the SGR Railway train between Tanzanian’s capital and Dodoma, also marks transformative milestone in the nation’s transport sector. The SGR train promises to revolutionaise travel between the two Tanzanian cities covering about 1000 km in just three hours.

In addition, the newly launched electric -powered SGR Railway in Tanzania offers a significant reduction in travel time compared to buses, which take between eight and ten hours.

The landmark project further demonstrates the successful collaboration between Tanzania and Yapi Merkezeiu, highlighting the power or partnership in achieving monumental goals.

Previously, Yapi Merkezi, the contractor that handled SGR project in the country, which involved designing and constructing key sections from Dar-es-Salaam to Isaka, covering over 1,000 km, has reinvested 70% of this project proceeds into Tanzania, the company has said.

Yapi Merkezi’s Vice President, Dr. Erdem Arioglu, said in a statement that the company had reinvested the money as part of its commitment to Tanzania.

”More than 70% of the project’s fund have been reinvested into the Tanzanian economy through local suppliers, subcontractors, and employeesn reflecting Yapi Merkezei’s commitment to the country’s growth,” the statement reads in parat.

Yapi Merkezei’s dedication has set a new benchmark in rilwaay construction and engineering, at least in Africa. Their meticulous planning, innovative techniques, and focus on sustainability have resulted in world – class railyway system.

Speaking during the launch of the elecrtic-powered railway system in Dar-es Salaam, President Samia Hassan praised Yapi Merkezei for its exceptional contribution to Tanzanians development.

The Tanzanian President said the landmrk chievement led by Yapi Merkezei would help heighten transport and stimulate development.

”This project is testament to Yapi Merkezi’s remarkble capabilities and professionalism. Their dedicate efforts and adherence to high standards have the way for brighter future for our nation. The SGR railway will play a pivotal role in our journey towards economic prosperity and regional integration,” President Hassan noted.
