Sympathisers donate N300m, foods, household items to Mokwa flood victims

In response to the devastating flood disaster that struck Mokwa in Niger State, donations amounting to over ₦300 million, alongside massive food supplies and household essentials, have been received as of June 4, 2025, from a wide array of individuals, government officials, organizations, and corporate bodies.

The Federal Government made the most substantial contribution with ₦2 billion and 20 trucks of grains to support relief efforts.

Prominent among the donors is Senator Sani Musa (313), representing Niger East Senatorial District, who donated ₦50 million, as well as Senator Abubakar Sani Bello (Abu Lolo) representing Niger North, who matched that donation with another ₦50 million.

The Honorable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Malagi, contributed ₦20 million, reinforcing the federal commitment.

Another key donation came from the First Lady of Niger State and her family, who jointly donated ₦50 million.

Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi also supported with ₦20 million.

Corporate organizations also demonstrated significant generosity.

Niger Foods contributed ₦20 million and 1,000 bags of rice, while KIARA Rice Mills Ltd donated 1,000 bags of 25kg rice. SAMMYA Nigeria Ltd, Top Desk Int. Ltd, Trans Excel Nig. Ltd, Upright Contractors Ltd, and Afro Based each donated ₦10 million, underscoring the private sector’s commitment to humanitarian causes.

Mainstream Foundation provided a major in-kind donation, including 500 bags of rice, 350 packs of spaghetti, 300 gallons of groundnut oil, 300 bags of salt, 300 packs of Maggi seasoning, 300 buckets, 300 blankets, and 150 mattresses.

Arab Contractors added ₦20 million, while Barr. Mahmud (SAN) donated another ₦20 million.

Other contributors included Barr. Suleman Abubakar (₦50,000), Janet David (₦20,000), Larabah Foods (₦200,000), Ibrahim G. Audi (₦100,000), Aspire Alliance for Niger State Youth (₦20,000), Ecalpemos Technologies Ltd (₦500,000), and Haliru Bande (₦50,000).

Also recorded were Zakariyyaa Shaku Muhammad (₦500,000), the Director Generals’ Forum (₦1 million), Niger South Senior Stakeholders’ Forum (₦3 million), and the Golden Stars Human and Social Development Initiative (₦1 million).

Political and professional bodies also participated in the relief drive.

The Niger State Commissioners’ Forum gave ₦6 million, while the House of Assembly Members jointly donated ₦5 million. Hon. Saidu Musa Abdull (SMA) added ₦20 million, while the Tinubu-Shetima Ambassadors contributed ₦200,000. Other supporters included Chief (Dr.) Sir Onuoha Emerem (₦250,000), Salmanu Bala Jafaar (₦10,000), One Word Magazine (₦20,000), and the TIMEOUT4AFRICA Basketball Foundation (₦100,000).

As flood victims in Mokwa continue to recover, the collective effort from government, private citizens, and organizations reflects growing national solidarity.
