Sudan Remains Worst on Global Humanitarian Crisis List

Sudan is the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with more than 30 million people in need of urgent aid as a result of 20 months of war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) 2025 Emergency Watchlist.

For the second year in a row, Sudan tops the watchlist of global humanitarian crises, followed by Gaza and the West Bank, Myanmar, Syria, and South Sudan.

The Sudan conflict has resulted in the displacement of 13 million people, nearly nine million of whom are internally displaced, and more than half of the population is suffering from acute hunger. Violence, including airstrikes, shelling, and attacks on civilian areas, has exacerbated the humanitarian situation, resulting in famine in parts of Darfur.

Despite international efforts, the war is far from over, as both sides intensify their attacks, compromising humanitarian access and exacerbating a food and health crisis that threatens to engulf the entire region.
