Sokoto Restates Resolve to Surmount Water Challenges

The water scarcity bedeviling Sokoto State may soon become history as the state government has reiterated its resolve to complete the 40-million-gallons-per-day water project aimed at addressing the scarcity.

The Sokoto State Commissioner for Water Resources, Yusuf Mohammed Maccido, reiterated the resolve in an interaction with journalists in Sokoto.

Maccido emphasized Governor Aliyu’s determination to see the project through to completion, citing its critical importance in alleviating the ongoing water shortages.

He noted that significant taxpayer funds had already been invested in the project, making its completion a priority for the administration.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu has shown unwavering dedication to resolving this issue, recognizing the benefits it will bring to the people of Sokoto,” Maccido said.

“Completing this project will not only address water scarcity in the metropolis but also ensure the expansion of water supply to newly developed areas and rural communities.”

The Commissioner further assured that Governor Aliyu’s administration is not just focused on completing abandoned projects but also on developing sustainable solutions for the state’s water supply challenges.

These solutions, he said, include introducing modern infrastructure for water distribution and storage to ensure reliability and efficiency in delivery.

Beyond the Sokoto metropolis, Maccido disclosed that the administration is actively working on plans to extend water supply networks to underserved rural areas, providing these communities with consistent and clean water access for the first time in years.

He also revealed that part of the administration’s broader vision includes collaborations with international development partners to secure funding and technical expertise for water resource management.

These efforts, Maccido said, are aimed at building a long-term solution to water scarcity and ensuring that Sokoto State residents have access to quality water, even as the population grows.

He urged residents of the state to support the government’s efforts and remain patient as the administration tackles the water crisis head-on, prioritizing the welfare of all citizens across Sokoto State.
