Sokoto Govt, SDGs train 100 youths on briquette, stove fabrication

Sokoto State Government, in partnership with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), on Tuesday begun the training of 100 youths on briquettes and stove fabrications.

The Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Balarabe Dandin-Mahe, said the training was aimed at improving climate-friendly stove fabrication and briquette production in the state.

Dandin-Mahe, who represented Gov. Aminu Tambuwal at the occasion, reiterated government’s continued efforts on addressing climate change and other environmental challenges.

The commissioner explained that briquette production techniques was a huge source of export which would increase income and revenue generation in the country.

He said participants would be exposed to entrepreneurial skills to enable them to run successful businesses in briquettes.

Dandin-Mahe, who also oversees the Ministry of Environment, said government would ensure annual tree planting exercise and production of at least two million tree seedlings each year for free distribution.

He added that 70 modern waste bunkers were constructed, beside multi million naira erosion control project at Mabera, along with recruitment of 700 environmental management workers.

According to him, the state government will liaise with some agencies to establish waste recycling plants and establish erosion and watershed management agency.

He said government ensured that workers attended international programmes on climate change, established schools orchard and distributed energy cooking alternative items to people.
