Dangote Cement Plc has completed the construction of seventeen boreholes in the communities surrounding its Obajana Plant in Kogi State.
The distribution includes six boreholes in Obajana, six in Oyo, two in Iwaa, and three in Apata, based on terrain considerations.
Speaking at a workshop for journalists in the North Central region, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi, the General Manager of Community Affairs/Special Duties, highlighted that these water projects were initiated to address the communities’ increasing water needs due to the daily influx of people.
These initiatives are part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.
Mr. Adeyemi also mentioned the company’s robust relationship with its host communities and the recent addition of medical equipment to the clinic in Iwaa community, as stipulated in the Community Development Agreement with Mining communities of Oyo and Iwaa.
Additionally, the Company laid the foundation for a block of 3 classrooms in Oyo community to facilitate the take-off of a UBE secondary school, relieving children from accessing secondary education in neighboring communities. During the foundation laying ceremony, a new borehole was also commissioned.
The company’s contributions to community development were commended by the Baalo of Oyo, Oba Solomon Obahawu.
Furthermore, Dangote Cement Plc had previously empowered 40 women in fashion design as part of its commitment to women and youth empowerment.
The Head of Social Performance, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola, expressed hope that these graduates would create job opportunities through apprenticeship, supporting job creation efforts in Kogi State communities.
Mr. JV Gungune, the Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana Plant, emphasized that the skill acquisition schemes aimed to support the government’s job creation efforts and foster local economic development.
