African nations have been urged to ensure better partnership in order to develop and expand technical expertise in meteorology in Africa.
Director general of the Corporate Communications Unit, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Mr. Muntari Yusuf, in a statement Thursday in Abuja, cited the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, as having made the appeal at an event in The Gambia.
The event was an inaugural mid-level meteorological technician graduation ceremony held at the Department of Water Resources Training School, Banjul, The Gambia.
The Minister stressed on the need for synergy among the nations of the continent in order to bridge the technical gap allowing Africa to develop sustainably in the field of meteorology.
Siriki noted that the occasion also highlighted the importance attached to the contributions of meteorology to sustainable socio-economic development, security and social well-being of Gambian citizens.
“For the successful and sustainable socio-economic development of any community or nation, emphasis must be placed on capacity building, regardless of limited resources.”
The Minister, later commended the government of The Gambia for taking the initiative to conceive and develop the idea which led to the graduation ceremony.
