Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has made a passionate appeal for a grassroots revolution in agriculture, urging every Nigerian to take part in growing food.
This call to action was made recently during a meeting with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, where Senator Tinubu underscored the critical role of agriculture in national development.
Emphasizing the need for self-sufficiency in food production, the First Lady pointed out that the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) is actively supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration by focusing on key areas such as agriculture, empowerment, education, health, and social welfare.
The initiative also includes the #ONE NIGERIA/Unity Fabric project, which aims to foster a sense of national unity among the youth by encouraging them to create designs that reflect the Nigerian identity beyond tribal or state affiliations.
Senator Tinubu’s commitment to the cause is further demonstrated by the RHI’s monthly Food Outreach Program, which provides assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Persons with Disabilities, showcasing her dedication to addressing the needs of the vulnerable in society.
The UN’s Deputy Secretary-General, Aisha Mohammed, highlighted the importance of investing in youth, women, and girls, and expressed the UN’s interest in partnering with the RHI to support these efforts.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to introduce the new UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Moustapha Malik Fall, to the First Lady.
