A former governor of the central bank and deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, has expressed displeasure and lamentations over the poor nutritional status of Nigerians, Nature News gathered.
The former CBN governor described it as unfortunate and unacceptable.
Sanusi made this statement on Tuesday in Kaduna during the 50th Annual Scientific Conference/Annual General Meeting of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria.
The theme of the conference was, ‘Improving Nutrition Intervention Outcomes in Nigeria Through Evidence-Based Nutrition Data Generation and Dissemination.’

Sanusi, ably represented by a former deputy governor of Kano State, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, noted that he was concerned about the high figures of malnutrition in the country which he described as unfortunate.
He said, “It is my hope that the conference will proffer a solution to confront malnutrition in the state and Nigeria.”
The Kaduna state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Baloni, also disclosed that state government decided to approve six months of maternity leave for female workers in the state workforce, adding that nutrition was the bedrock of good health and any meaningful development of any society.
She said the Nasir El-Rufai’s administration was committed to changing the unacceptable narrative of poor nutrition and health indices in the state.
