Plateau energy corporation partners ACReSAL on climate-smart solutions

By Abbas Nazil

The Plateau State Energy Corporation (PSEC) has pledged to collaborate with the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project in a bid to strengthen climate-smart agriculture through renewable and decentralized energy solutions.

A delegation from PSEC, led by the Executive Director of Technical Services, Mr. Samben Bitrus, paid a courtesy visit to the ACReSAL State Project Management Unit (SPMU) office in Jos to discuss ways of working together.

The focus of the meeting was on deploying renewable energy to boost productivity and resilience among farmers in semi-arid landscapes.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Bitrus stressed that the energy challenges facing farmers and agribusinesses directly affect their output and long-term survival.

He noted that PSEC was keen on finding practical, scalable solutions that could provide farmers with reliable and clean energy for irrigation, processing, and other agricultural activities.

The ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Garba Gowon Gonkol, welcomed the team and outlined the objectives of the project.

He emphasized the importance of sustainable energy access in enhancing irrigation systems, reducing post-harvest losses, and enabling value addition at the grassroots level.

Mr. Bitrus added that the partnership would combine ACReSAL’s agro-climatic expertise with PSEC’s technical and regulatory mandate to pilot integrated models capable of improving yields, reducing vulnerability to drought, and creating off-season income opportunities for rural communities.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate sustainable agriculture, improve livelihoods, and strengthen climate resilience across Plateau State’s semi-arid regions.
