The Plateau State Government has signed a ₦13.5 billion contract with the China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) to rehabilitate the Laminga and Yakubu Gowon water treatment plants in Jos.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Samuel Jatau, signed the agreement on Friday, October 31, 2025, in Jos, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing potable water for residents under the Greater Jos Master Plan.
Mutfwang noted that the contract, awarded after a transparent bidding process, is expected to be completed by December 2026.
He urged the contractor to adhere strictly to project standards and assured of timely funding to ensure smooth execution.
Managing Director of the Jos Water Services Corporation (JWSC), Mr. Apollos Samchi, lauded the governor for paying the counterpart funds required by the French Development Agency (AFD), explaining that the project had stalled under the previous administration due to funding gaps.
Samchi highlighted that the Yakubu Gowon plant, which supplies 80 percent of Jos’ water, has not been rehabilitated in five decades.
He added that the state has also provided three water tankers, repaired 60 motorised boreholes, and restored 300 wells in unconnected areas.
In response, CGC team lead, Mr. Ke You Cheng, pledged to complete the project on schedule and in line with specifications.
