The former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has formally confirmed his resignation, ending his two-year tenure at the agency.

In a statement released by his media team, Oyebamiji said his exit clears the way for his full commitment to the 2026 Osun State governorship race.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to lead NIWA and acknowledged the support of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, whose recommendation secured his appointment in October 2023.

During his stewardship, Oyebamiji said he applied his nearly 40 years of public- and private-sector experience to improve NIWA’s operations.

His leadership reportedly resulted in more than a 70 percent reduction in waterways accidents, wider safety awareness campaigns across the country, and enhanced staff welfare.

Reaffirming his intention to seek the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket, Oyebamiji said he would rely on God, party leadership, and the support of Osun citizens as he pursues the mandate.

He pledged continued service marked by dedication, integrity, and competence.
