Open defecation: Kwara govt seal building over lack of toilet

By Bisola Adeyemo

Residents seeking to rent apartments in Kwara state have been advised to look out for standard toilet facilities in houses before payment as a way to avoid practicing open defecation.

The advice came following a residential building sealed by the state government for lack of toilet facilities for the tenants living in the house which has led them to practice open defecation.

The house which is located at Agba-dam area of Kwara state was locked up by the state Environmental Protection Agency Board after the owner failed to adhere to the notices that had been previously issued to him, Punch said.

A statement issued by Adejoke Adekunle, Press Secretary of KWEPA said the General Manager of KWEPA, Alhaji Sa’ad Dan-Musa gave the directive to the concerned department.

While addressing the tenants, the Deputy Director, Environment, Mrs Adedotun Taiwo, who heads the Waste and Sanitation Department, said the action of the owner contravened the fight against open defecation which is a threat to environmental health.

“The building is inhabitable as there are no toilet facilities in place and it is detrimental to the health of everyone. We are here because it is the duty of the state government to watch out for the health of the citizens and residents of the state,” She said.
