Oluwaseyi Moejoh: Nurturing Youthful Environmentalists

Oluwaseyi Moejoh is a Nigerian environmentalist and National Geographic Young Explorer who works to teach the next generation of young leaders about climate action and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to offer creative solutions to environmental problems.

Through her nongovernmental organisation, U-recycle Initiative Africa, Oluwaseyi and her team have influenced over 10,000 young people in Nigeria and Africa, with funding from prominent organisations like the National Geographic Society, the Government of Canada, and the Captain Planet Foundation.

Oluwaseyi has been featured in a number of high-profile media outlets, including CNN, AFP, Smithsonian Magazine, and NBC News.

Oluwaseyi contributes to the OH-Wake Magazine as a contributing editor. a well-known international youth environmental journal that focuses on climate stories from the viewpoint of young people.

She graduated from the esteemed Lagos Business School with a certification in Nonprofit Leadership and Management. At the University of Lagos in Nigeria, she is working for a bachelor’s degree in law.

Oluwaseyi’s exceptional contributions to environmental conservation and youth development have earned her numerous honours over the years, including the 2022 Diana Award, recognition as a National Geographic Young Explorer, the Captain Planet Foundation’s 2022 Planeteer Alliance Ambassador, selection as an RSPB Official Youth Delegate to COP26, the UNDP Official Youth Delegate at the 2022 YouthConnekt Summit, Keynote Speaker at the 2022 Korea-Africa Youth Summit, and the 2021 Global Teen Leader Award.

As an up-and-coming leader and environmentalist, Oluwaseyi Moejoh is enthusiastic about sustainability, waste management, and youth empowerment.

She is a co-founder of the U-Recycle Initiative Africa, a youth-led environmental group that works to advance the circular economy and encourage recycling throughout Africa.

Among her major accomplishments and contributions are: encouraging recycling and trash reduction with the U-Recycle Initiative.

Oluwaseyi has spearheaded a number of initiatives to raise awareness in businesses, schools, and communities about recycling, trash reduction, and appropriate garbage disposal.

Her work focuses on teaching youth the value of sustainable waste management in halting climate change and environmental degradation; creating innovative environmental campaigns, like #PlasticFreeLagos and #StopTheCycle, which address plastic pollution by promoting sustainable consumption practices and alternatives to single-use plastics.

Oluwaseyi actively encourages young people around Africa to take action against plastic pollution and embrace sustainable practices through youth participation and leadership.

Young Africans are empowered by her leadership to spearhead environmental change in their communities.

Oluwaseyi is a global advocate who has spoken on behalf of Nigerian youth in international forums about the importance of youth in accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action).
