The Oganifu Umu Ohafia Association, a distinguished social group made up of prominent figures from the Ohafia clan, has unveiled a new initiative to improve access to clean drinking water for residents across the Ohafia local government area.
This project forms part of the association’s long-standing commitment to uplifting the living standards of the communities within Ohafia through developmental interventions in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The announcement came during the association’s mid-year meeting in Enugu, where its Board of Trustees Chairman, Chukwuemeka Ogele, reviewed the group’s achievements since 2021.
Ogele recounted that in 2021, the association donated learning materials to schools in Akanu, Ebem, Amaekpu, Asaga, Okagwe, and Nkwebi communities.
In 2022, they organized a free medical outreach which included eye check-ups for the Ndi Ibe Ohafia community, while also distributing learning materials to primary schools within the local government area.
By 2023, the group had extended its health intervention, conducting free eye checks in three more communities, further expanding its healthcare reach.
For 2024, the association focused on educational infrastructure, donating 100 classroom seats to schools including Isiugwu Primary School and Okagwe Community School.
Speaking on the current year’s plan, the association’s Secretary, Sir Chukwuemeka Mba, stated that the focus for 2025 is on enhancing water supply to communities.
According to him, the association will reactivate dormant boreholes across the local government area to ensure residents have improved access to clean and safe piped water.
He emphasized that clean water is essential to the health and well-being of the population, and the association’s intervention will help reduce water-borne diseases while easing the stress of accessing potable water.
Mba also highlighted that this water initiative aligns with their broader mission of addressing critical community needs that directly impact the quality of life in Ohafia.
The association’s leadership underscored the importance of continuity in developmental projects, pointing out that their multi-year record demonstrates a clear commitment to community progress rather than one-off charitable gestures.
They further noted that the projects have been funded through contributions from members, most of whom are accomplished professionals and entrepreneurs who maintain strong ties to their ancestral communities.
Community leaders and residents have expressed appreciation for the association’s sustained support, noting that the initiatives have had a tangible impact on education, healthcare, and now water infrastructure.
The Oganifu Umu Ohafia Association reaffirmed its dedication to executing more projects that promote the social and economic development of Ohafia, ensuring that no community is left behind in accessing essential services.
