His Excellency, Obong Victor Attah, is the former Executive Governor of Akwa-Ibom State in the South-South region of Nigeria. While he was the governor of the state, Attah ensured that green space (parks) and landscape are crucial in new town planning to provide a sustainable environment for both plants and humans to co-exist.
Attah was the Governor of Akwa-Ibom for eight years from 1999 – 2007. His tenure as the governor witnessed some kind of renaissance. Today, Akwa-Ibom State is a preferred destination in Nigeria. Business moguls and others are flying into Uyo, the state capital, land at the Airport which he conceived an stamped on the ground before he left office.
Thankfully, the thriving Airport is aptyly named in his honour. Golfers from across the world now fly into Uyo, regularly, to grapple with the lush green and challenging holes at the Ibom Golf Course which Attah built while he was in office as a governor.
They enjoy the serene Caribbean themed Ibom Icon Resort which his administration also constructed. The power plant which he planted still hums and feeds power to the national grid. There are so many sectors of the economy which Obong has performed creditably well.
Former governor Victor Attah has live a life of selfless service not only to Akwa-Ibom, his home state, but Nigeria as a whole. Indeed, barring very few, whoever became who or what in today’s politics in Akwa-Ibom State starting from 1999, owes the status to Obong Attah.
For his significant contributions, achievements and relentless commitment to sustainable environment in Akwa-Ibom State and Nigeria in particular, His Excellency, Obong Victor Attah is honoured and declare the winner of NatureNews 2023 HEAD Award for Lifetime Achievement (Sustainable Environment).
