Dr. Ainojie Irune, the Chief Operating Officer of Oando Energy Resources, emphasized the imperative of regional collaboration among African nations to accelerate the continent’s energy transition.
This call to action was made during the recently concluded Africa Oil Week held in Cape Town, South Africa.
“The energy transition brings both opportunities and challenges to African nations. On one hand, our transition objectives are buoyed by significant energy deficits in production, coupled with an abundance of renewable energy resources,” Dr. Irune remarked.
He went on to emphasize that the majority of African countries lack the essential human, technological, and financial resources required for a comprehensive shift towards green energy.
To ensure the fair distribution of the costs associated with the implementation, management, and expansion of renewable energy projects, Dr. Irune stressed the critical importance of prioritizing regional cooperation.
He stated, “Through such collaborative efforts, we can advance and forge a more promising energy future for Africa.”
Dr. Irune participated in the Energy Leaders Debate, which focused on the theme “How can the African continent achieve sustainability and enhance access to modern energy services for its people?”
During the debate, he shared insights on expediting Africa’s energy transition and realizing net zero goals. “Africa stands as a renewable energy powerhouse,” Dr. Irune declared, highlighting the continent’s abundant human capital, technical capabilities, and available resources.
He concluded by urging business leaders to leverage opportunities like industry gatherings to expedite Africa’s progress in the energy sector.
