In light of the new weather forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) of a possible haziness and cloudiness across Nigeria from Monday through Wednesday they have advised individuals with respiratory issues to prioritize wearing face masks and encourage the elderly and children to wear warm clothing during the night.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday, moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is anticipated over the northern and north-central states during this period.
Exceptions to this pattern include Benue, Kogi, and Kwara, where patches of cloud within the hazy atmosphere are expected. Additionally, patches of clouds are forecasted over the South’s inland regions throughout the period.
The forecast further indicate that on Tuesday, moderate dust haze is expected over the northern and north-central regions, with similar exceptions in Kwara, Benue, and Kogi. Moreover, isolated thunderstorms are likely over various southern states during the afternoon and evening hours.
For Wednesday, NiMet envisions a slight dust haze over the northern region and patches of cloud in the north-central region, with isolated thunderstorms anticipated in specific areas later in the day.
Similar to the previous two days, patches of clouds are expected over the South’s inland and coastal regions, with isolated thunderstorms projected in certain states.
The agency also emphasizes the importance of moisturizing skin, eyes, and lips due to the weather’s potential effects.
NiMet further urges airline operators to stay updated on weather reports and forecasts to ensure effective planning and operation of flights during this period.
