There have been feasting and merry at Okpoama community in Brass local government area of Bayelsa State, South/South Nigeria, after a whale went adrift the shore of the community.
Okpoama, a predominantly fishing community, is close to the Atlantic ocean.
It was gathered that community folks woke up Wednesday morning to see the big fish was already dead.
It was also gathered that residents soon came down on the giant fish, butchering as much as they could for their families as meat.
This is not the first time that communities of the Niger Delta region will be fearing on large sea creatures.
In 2021, fishermen at Oyorokoto, a popular fishing settlement also close to the ocean in Andoni local government area of Rivers State also butchered and ate a large dolphin that went adrift.
For the Okpoama community, this is also not the first time as a giant whale which was stranded in the same seaside community in 2019 was butchered by the residents for food.
Videos that showed up on social media on Wednesday revealed where people were butchering the whale at the seashore.
Community sources said the whale was dead after being out of water throughout the night.
